Have fun ;D
A young man, in his early thirties, wakes up and walks two blocks to work. The man lives a boring life, but he would soon have a day of rough adventure. The day was tedious. The highlight being a fly that buzzed along his office all day. He quite liked the idea of being able to fly, and pondered upon this while he walked home from work. He lived out in the rural plains of Montana. He considered himself a sort of boring man. He hated the way he never took risks. While he walked down the dirt road home, his cell phone rang. He didn't recognize the number, and he usually wouldn't answer it, but he felt he should answer this call.
"...dancin' in your wooden shoes, in a wedding gown..."
He listened to the soft melody of his ringtone, "When the Stars Go Blue", and didn't feel himself. He flipped open his phone and put it to his ear. "Hello?"
"Hey, buddy! Remember me?" and the voice of his childhood friend called across the line.
"Of course I do, Robby, how you doin'?"
"Great, well hey, I'm back in town, and how you feelin' for an adventure, like the old days?"
The man longingly thought back to his rebellious childhood days, and wondered what ever could have happened to him to get so boring, like he said he never would. A chill ran through him, and he said, a little louder and enthusiastically than he had meant, "What do ya have in mind Rob?"
"Excellent. Well...meet me at the new interstate two blocks past 9th street, you'll be in for a treat. As he made his way to meet his old buddy, he remembered how much trouble they used to get into, so he picked a piece of straw, and knotted it around his finger. This was to remind him not to get swept up in the heat of the moment and do something
really stupid.
Without even realizing it, he was there, and his friend was telling him to take off his clothes. He didn't even ask why, and ripped his clothes off. His friend and him left off as they did before Robby left for New York on a scholarship. With hardly a 'hello' they were streaking across the interstate, which seemed to be a little more busy than usual.
Just then, a helicopter flew down right next to where they were standing, naked and awestruck.
"Hey you crazy cats," said a man with a camera out of the open helicopter door. "You wanna do somethin' crazy and be on T.V.?" and without a second's thought Robby was in the helicopter and pulling the man inside.
The man looked at the hay knotted around his finger and said, "hold up, is this safe? I mean, what are we doing?"
"Oh come on Spence," said Robby, "what are you, chicken?" and just like the kid on 'Back To The Future', he was ready to do whatever the crazy stunt was.
The man with the camera told them the plan. He was going to throw him out of the helicopter, 5 feet up in the air, and tape it for a hit T.V show. He had Spencer and Robby fill out some forms, and Spencer thought this seemed pretty safe.
"Alright, you ready guys?" said the camera man.
"Yes," confirmed Spencer, "I'm ready."
"Errr...I don't think I wanna do it anymore..." Robby said unsurely, "But don't let me ruin your time Spence. You go ahead, I'll meet you at Sper's bar tomorrow..."
Spencer was through with plain Jane Spence. He wanted to do this, and it
was safe. It's not like it's fifty feet, only five. "Fine, chicken out, that's fine..." and with that he turned from Robby, said, "Ready, 1...2...3" and jumped. He heard the helicopter lift up, and panicked. He hit the soft grass of the field, and his mind was eased. He flipped over, and looked at the glittering light of the bright stars. The sky was so clear. He saw the hay still wrapped around his finger, ripped it off, crumpled the hay in his hand, and thought about the day he had. "Ha, I can handle anything." He thought back to right before he jumped from the helicopter, then the jump. He thought of the brief rushing feeling right before he hit the ground, and had a heart attack.
The End
Ta-da, so there you have it, the answer to the riddle. ;D
